I had the pleasure of doing a mentor session during my time here in South Africa. With a mentor session I teach how I plan, photograph and process a photo session. Also how I handle the business side of being a professional photographer. (not my favorite thing to talk about, but definitely vital to running a photography business)

Meet Joanne. She lives about 3 houses from me here in Lacey, WA. And get this … She is also SOUTH AFRICAN! How randomly lucky for me. We have the same home country and even better we are both Military wives. I don’t come across too many South Africans here in the US. So it was a pleasant surprise when we finally met.

I had a great afternoon with Joanne.. as we walked through this big open field I could “hear” Joanne’s thoughts.. “where is this crazy woman taking me? ” We had so much fun, to be honest I love when I get to do anytime sessions. Especially for women. It’s a chance for a Mommy to enjoy herself and for a moment be selfish. (we so need those days or hours) Selfish in the sense of doing something for you.

Joanne is a Contemporary dance teacher at the Olympia Dance Centre. I hope you enjoy these Images.

I can’t remember the exact date that we closed on our new home here in Lacey, WA but that day was the beginning of an amazing friendship.

I remember standing in the voyeur of our home and seeing this curly brown haired girl knocking on the door. She smiled and said. “Hiii, I am Tera and I live right there…” (pointing out to the house right next door). She had this amazingly beautiful smile on her face and I immediately wanted her to be my friend.

Tera is an amazing person. She is strong, ambitious, dedicated and so loving.

Would you believe me when I say that she is a Captain in the United States Army? Yup, and her better half is in the Military too. Seth is currently overseas on a deployment and we are all eagerly awaiting his return. I hope that we could send him some of these beautiful pictures of his wife.

Tera I hope you know that when I win the Lottery I am gonna buy a house next to every home you will ever own. Just FYI, so be ready. *wink*
